Family Portrait Photography at Port Stephens: The Dunning Family at Zenith Beach
When the Dunning family reached out for a family portrait session, we knew we were in for a fabulous shoot. It all started with the idea of capturing their family in the Sutherland Shire, Fiona and her family re-located to Newcastle, so our location changed to the stunning coastal beauty of Port Stephens, and we couldn’t have asked for a better setting than Zenith Beach. We started at Shoal Bay, as the wind was playing a bit of a game with us. After a short while, we made our way to Zenith Beach, where the blue and pink hues of a Eastern view of the sunset began to set the perfect mood for their portrait session. The kids were all smiles, playing in the sand and rocks, making the best of the breezy conditions.
It’s always special when I get to work with families I’ve known for a while, and Fiona and her kids are no exception. A few years ago, I met Fiona at swimming lessons, where our children were in the same class. We’ve talked about doing a family shoot for ages, we finally made it happen. It was so rewarding to capture their connection, especially on such a stunning beach as Zenith.
As the sun dipped lower behind the hills, the magic truly began. The light, the ocean breeze, and the fun energy of the kids made for some unforgettable moments. As a little bonus, I filmed some short clips throughout the session to create a moving pictures film, giving them a keepsake that’s more than just photos—it’s a piece of their story in motion.
We wrapped up the shoot as dusk settled, with a collection of beautiful family portraits that I know will be cherished for years to come. Capturing families like the Dunnings at iconic spots in Port Stephens makes my job feel like a dream. It’s moments like this that remind me why I love being a family portrait photographer.
If you’re looking for a family photographer in Port Stephens who can capture your family in a relaxed, natural way, I’d love to hear from you! Let’s create something special.
